Independent Living Skills!

In order to realize full independence some people with disabilities may feel the need of special training in money management, homemaking or cooking skills, house maintenance, health care needs, equipment use, Braille instruction, communication skills, building self esteem, how to be one's own advocate, attendant care management, understanding the American with Disabilities Act, or any number of other areas related to independent living.

SAILS has strongly stressed the importance of independent living skills.  Independent Living  Skills Training training can be one-on-one or in a group setting.

These workshops are conducted by Mary Blake, IL Skills Coordinator/GAP Program here at SAILS, and they are usually held here at the facility.  Occasionally they are  held elsewhere

Mary Blake's' primary responsibility is to guide you through the process of becoming independent, such as helping you develop a goal and making sure you get the right accommodations needed in order to meat that goal.  Independent Living Skills includes helping you maintain daily activities; thus, you, the consumer, will no longer have to rely on other people to get the job done for you.  Rather you will be in charge of your daily life activities...and what a feeling that will bring!

Please call Mary Blake @ 281.1878 ext.16 if you need any special accommodations one week in advance.
