American with Disabilities Act 2007!
San Antonio Independent Living Services celebrated its 17th annual Americans with Disabilities Act on Monday July 30th 2007. The event began at 8:30 a.m. with a crowd gathering at the El Mercado and speakers included Regina Blye, Executive Director SILC and Lon Oakley, Jr., SAILS Board Chair.
Once at Villita Assembly Building, the crowd of approximately 370 was welcomed by a group of 54 exhibitors, entertainment, door prizes and food and drinks for everyone. Keynote speaker was Mr. Gordon Hartman, entertainment was provided by an amazing group of children with disabilities ‘Dreams Fulfilled through Music’ and by ‘Inner City with Style’.
Awards were given to Yolanda
Aguirre for Individual Advocacy, Grace Herrera for Provider and
Christopher Reyes for Provider of the year, Senator Leticia Van de Putte
for Public Servant of the Year, Organization of the Year awards was
given into three categories:
Non-profit-CareLink
Special Event- River City Christian School Student Council
Private Sector-Via Transportation
Also, Goodwill Industries for Large Employer of the Year, Movies 9 for Small Employer of the Year, Dr. Maria Felix-Ortiz for Media award, Target Volunteer Group and the American G.I. Forum for Organization of the Year.
